Rubber Rule: Porno Industry Hates New Condom Law, Threatens To Sue

California recently passed a law that has the porno industry fuming mad. The law, called Measure B, forces all pornography filmed in state to have their performers wrapped up and strapped up. And in a new report by Health Land, the industry may sue to stop its implementation, citing the potential profit lose from people buying less video.

Meanwhile, advocates in favor of the law says it will reduce the rate of STD’s among members of the porno industry. For the part the industry says, “that 350,000 sex scenes have been shot without condoms since 2004 without a single case of HIV transmission on set.”

Under the law, producers would have to get a permit from the Health Department which would most likely involve nurses popping up on porno sets and checking things out. The pertinent question of if that would involve some sort of genital examination is not yet clear.

While some adult-film-industry trade groups, like The Free Speech Coalition, are threatening lawsuits on first amendments grounds, a pretty  influential public media company has come out agains the measure. The Los Angeles Times Editorial board released a statement saying the law, while good intentioned, is stupid and won’t work.

What do you think? Are you ready to say goodbye to ‘raw’ video’s?
